I know when I’m working on a painting and I start to hum, I’m headed in the right direction.  When the painting is flowing, honest, and spontaneous, I have a feeling like no other.  Time flies and I paint and sing as if no one can see or hear me.

PORTFOLIO

My paintings are done in my studio without using sketches or photos for reference.  I rely on my formal art training and my life’s experiences when creating a piece.  My paintings are really a  reaction to the paint on the surface, a sort of editing process. I see things in the paint and go from there.  It is such a personal way to paint.

THE PROCESS

I am most inspired by art that leaves a great deal to the imagination.  For me, abstraction is exciting.  I paint on a variety of surfaces but my most recent works are on YUPO.   So unlike traditional watercolor paper, YUPO does not absorb paint.  Color can be completely lifted back to the original white surface which allows me to paint freely.  This particular way of painting seems to fit my way of thinking and creations.

NOT FOR PROFIT PAINTING

Through my art, I am able to express myself, but more importantly, all of the proceeds of my work are donated to the charities supported by the Gary Barnett Foundation, whose primary mission is to increase awareness of and prevention of suicide.

After the tragic suicide of one of our most beloved players, we felt compelled to create a voice and financial support system for suicide prevention.   My life has been impacted by suicide and I feel blessed that my art can positively impact the lives of those who may otherwise take their life.
